Rajkot cyber cell recovers 1,002 stolen mobile phones

RAJKOT: The cyber cell of Rajkot police have been able to recover 1,002 stolen mobile phones worth Rs 1.23 crore since January this year and return it to their rightful owners.


Police inspector of cyber cell unit, N N Zala, told TOI that now people can file online complaint for stolen mobile and upload its bill. "We track mobiles using its IMEI number with the help of the service provider," he added. According to a statement issued by police in the calendar year 2016, police had recovered 976 stolen mobiles worth Rs 1.16 crore.


Cyber cell unit has also resolved complaints regarding social media harassment. "Majority of the complainants are women who have been harassed over Instagram or Facebook. We have been able to nab the perpetrator and take legal action against them," said Zala.


Since January this year, police received 81 applications regarding social media harassment, of which 59 cases were solved. Last year, 69 cases were solved.
