RAJKOT/VADODARA/SURAT: Cracking down on liquor influx ahead of assembly polls, police seized Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 1.86 crore in Saurashtra and south Gujarat on Thursday.
The liquor consignments were seized near Khambhaliya town of Devbhoomi Dwarka district, Karjan near Vadodara, Ankleshwar and on the highway near Surat.
As many as 19 people were arrested, 14 in Karjan alone, and booked under prohibition law.
Acting on a tip-off, Khambhaliya police in Devbhoomi Dwarka district intercepted at truck with Haryana registration on the outskirts of the town. As many as 20,124 bottles of IMFL were packed in the truck. D V Gohel, police sub inspector, said they arrested the driver Jitendra Rajput and his assistant Manjitsinh Jat, both residents of Haryana.
