BMW Motorrad is all set to unveil its all-new middleweight adventure sport tourer, the F850GS, at EICMA this year. The F850GS is an all-new bike, which will serve as a replacement for the F800GS, which is getting old now. The bike will get a new engine, which will displace around 850 cc and make about 100 bhp or so. From what we hear, the engine will have a 270-degree firing order, giving it a V-twin feel. Also, the tubular steel frame on the bike will be replaced with an Aluminium chassis, in order to make the frame stiffer and lighter.
The bike will have a 21-inch wheel upfront and an 18-inch wheel at the rear, confirming that it will be a proper adventure touring machine, with decent off-road ability. Reports suggest that the quality levels along with features and equipment too will get an upgrade. First and foremost, the old, outdated console on the F800GS will be swapped for a new, slick TFT dash which is already doing duty on the R1200GS. Apart from showing lots of information, the console will have Bluetooth functionality and can be paired with a smartphone. There will be more features on offer as well.
As far as competition is concerned, the BMW F850GS will be going up against the Triumph Tiger 800, Honda Africa Twin and the Ducati Multistrada 950. Taking into consideration that all these bikes are already on sale in India, BMW Motorrad should bring the F850GS to India, hopefully by 2018.
