Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs H.N. Ananth Kumar said he will speak to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding funds for the smooth conduct of Mahamastakabhisheka of Gomateshwara statue scheduled for February 2018.

The minister was in Shravanabelgola on Friday to participate in the inauguration of Prakrit international conference. Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Ananth Kumar said, “Shravanabelgola has a great significance in Indian history. The Mahamastakabhisheka is a historic event held once in 12 years. The union government is committed to extend its cooperation in making the event a success,” he said.

When journalists brought to his notice that the centre had not released funds for the event thus far, he said the centre had allocated more funds for improving railway network and highways in the state in the recent years compared to the past. “I will discuss the requirements with Charukeerti Bhattaraka Swamy of the Jain Mutt at Shravanabelagola and then meet the PM to discuss the same,” he said.
