Special court for speedy trial of the 2008 serial bombing case in Assam

GUWAHATI: Assam government has accorded necessary clearance to convert an Additional District and Sessions Judge, Fast Track court into a Special Court for trying cases pertaining October 30, 2008 serial bombing case, that resulted in the death of 88 persons besides causing injuries to 141 persons.
Gauhati High court has recommended for converting the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Fast Track court to Special court for speedy trial of the serial bombing case.
Initially, the investigation of the cases was carried out by Assam police and later the same was handed over to CBI.
CBI submitted charge sheet against 19 persons in 2011. There are altogether 829 witnesses in the case out of which only 78 witnesses have been examined.
