NEW DELHI: The BJP on Friday said that the killing of Gowhar Ahmad Bhat, a BJP worker in Jammu and Kashmir, showed "real intolerance".

The BJP's national spokesman Sambit Patra said in a tweet that Ahmad, a Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha worker, was killed because he believed in a 'particular ideology'.

On Wednesday, 30-year-old Ahmad's body was found in an orchard in Killora village in Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir. According to J&K police, Ahmad was killed by militants.

BJP president Amit Shah called Ahmad a "martyr" and said terrorists will not deter the youth of the Valley from choosing a better future for themselves.

Calling for an end to the unending cycle of violence, the chief minister of the state Mehbooba Mufti expressed her condolences to the family of the slain Ahmad.

Ahmad's murder was condemned by opposition parties as well.

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah termed the murder a 'heartless' act and tweeted:
