The Supreme Court will hear a petition challenging the constitutional validity of the Aadhaar Act. Karnataka-based Mathew Thomas has moved the top court challenging the constitutional validity of the Aadhaar Act claiming that it infringes upon the Right to Privacy and the biometric mechanism was not working properly. On October 30, a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra had said that a Constitution bench would be constituted and Aadhaar-related matters would come up for hearing before it in the last week of November.
Out-patient, diagnostics services in Karnataka are likely to be hit today as private hospitals, diagnostic centres and clinics down shutters to protest against amendments to the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act. The Bill enables increased government regulation on private hospitals including fixing of fees and cost of treatment, and a district-level grievance committee that can take action against erring hospitals. The amended Bill will be presented in the forthcoming winter session of the legislature to be held in Belagavi.

Ousted Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will face trial before an anti-graft court tomorrow in the corruption cases spiralling from the Panama Papers scandal. Sharif, 67, had to step down as the chief of the Pakistan Muslim League—Nawaz (PML—N) after he was disqualified as the prime minister by the Supreme Court on July 28 in the scandal. The political future of Sharif, who leads Pakistan’s most powerful political family and the ruling PML-N party, has been hanging in balance since then.
