LUCKNOW: A man was kidnapped right outside the office of Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited in Hazratganj, and kept hostage for several hours, to prevent him from filing a tender.
In an incident that may sound like it is straight out of a movie, Hyderabad resident M Amarnath was kidnapped, driven around, and held hostage at gun-point by four men in a gold Hyundai Eon.
When he tried to raise an alarm, he was threatened with dire consequences.
The Hyderabad resident, who was in Lucknow to submit a quotation and security money for Madhyanchal Meter Station's Rs 45 crore 'material management' tender, was let go only when the time for filing the tender had lapsed.
Police and power department officials have already begun investigating the incident.
Amarnath also brought the incident to the attention of Madhyanchal MD AP Singh. He was also allowed to submit his form and cheque.
It is expected that one of the firms that participated in the tender process was behind the kidnapping. The names of these firms will be revealed only after the quotation box is opened.
The guilty party will be blacklisted from participating in future tenders.
