Caste clash averted in Mauaima

ALLAHABAD: Members of Dalit and upper caste communities came at loggerheads over a petty dispute Sisai in Sipah village of Mauaima on Friday, leading to tension in the area. Timely intervention of police prevented the situation from snowballing into a caste clash.


The supporters of an upper caste family allegedly threatened a Dalit woman of dire consequences after coming to know that she had complained against a member of an upper caste with Mauaima police.


When the Dalit started assembling there, the upper caste people allegedly opened fire in the air to create terror. Hundreds of villagers from both sides assembled near the house of the Dalit woman.


A heavy police force reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Mauaima police said that a man from an upper caste had taken a pipe for irrigation from the Dalit woman which got damaged. When the man tried to return the broken pipe to the woman, she refused to accept it and asked for a new one. When man from upper caste rebuked the woman, she went to police station and lodged a complaint against him.
