ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad high court on Thursday granted bail to Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar alias Ravan, who is an accused in the Saharanpur riots case.
Hearing a bail application filed by Chandrashekhar, Justice Mukhtar Ahmed directed he be released on bail. He said no specific role had been assigned to the applicant in the FIR nor was it alleged that he possessed a weapon at the time of the riots. Further, the FIR was lodged after a delay of three days.
His counsel pleaded that the applicant had been falsely implicated. He said members of Pratap Sena had entered into a locality where people from the scheduled castes lived in Saharanpur and burnt houses and property. The incident had rocked the state and many organizations had condemned the atrocities on Dalits. An FIR was lodged on May 6 in which the applicant was not named, he submitted.
