Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo comes back as Skoda Rapid Edition X

Skoda recently launched their famous dark themed edition of Rapid named as Monte Carlo Edition in India but as soon as its launch the name got into controversy as Oswall Wollen Mills Ltd. owning a brand named “Monte Carlo” objected to the name and a lawsuit was filed against Skoda for copyrights following which the Skoda has reintroduced the Rapid Monte Carlo edition as Rapid Edition X.

The Exterior remains unchanged in Edition X and comes with a two-tone exterior theme and alloy wheels identical to the Monte Carlo edition. It gets black radiator grille, gloss black ORVM, and 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. Other cosmetic changes include a black trunk lid spoiler, black grained rear diffuser and black roof foil. The two colour choices include Flash Red and Candy White. “Monte Carlo” flag badge on the B-pillar seems to have been removed from the Edition X.

On the inside, the special edition Skoda Rapid features a leather-clad flat-bottomed steering wheel and gear knob with contrasting red detailing. The “Monte Carlo” embossing on the seats is unlikely to feature now. It also gets stainless foot pedals, piano black AC vents and sporty textile mats with red stitching theme all around the seat covers and mats.

Engine choices for the new Edition X include a 1.6-litre MPI petrol engine producing 105 BHP and peak torque of 153 Nm paired to a 5-speed manual transmission or 6-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and a 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine producing over 110 BHP and peak torque of 250 Nm paired with a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.

The Rapid Monte Carlo was launched on 22 August 2017 at a starting price of INR 10.75 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) for the 1.6 L petrol manual variant. Its relaunch as the Skoda Rapid Edition X is unlikely to affect its pricing and the vehicle is now available at dealerships.
