Chennai: Heavy Rains in Chennai have disrupted the daily lives of the residents, as the streets are now flooded with water and the government has had to close down schools and colleges.
The local administration has issued an advisory to Chennai asking people to stay indoors and venture out only if it is really necessary. "Fishermen and locals have been advised against venturing out along and off the coastal areas. People living in the low lying areas have been asked by the administration to move to safer places," added skymetweather.com.
The state government has asked the Information Technology companies to announce holiday for their employees on Friday. Along with Chennai, several coastal areas of the state have been battered by rains since Tuesday.
"Rainfall activity will continue over north coastal Tamil Nadu with heavy to very heavy rain over Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chennai districts during the next 24 hours," a special bulletin issued at 8.30 am said on Friday.
According to skymetweather.com, "While there has been a break in Chennai rains during morning hours on Friday, these showers will once again make an appearance during the afternoon and evening hours. Thus, during the next 24 hours, heavy rains will occur in Chennai."
The only advice for people in this trying time is to remain calm and let the authorities handle the situation. The weather will continue to worsen but if people remain cautious and don’t go anywhere that’s dangerous, they’ll avoid being stranded in the flood.
People are having difficulties in carrying out activities like crossing streets and moving about the city due to clogged roads. Nagapattinam, Kanchipuram have closed their schools because of worsening weather conditions. Tamil Nadu chief Minister Udhaya Kumar has now commented that the lakes are not yet overflowing, so they’re not over the danger limit and people should not take the fake rumors in consideration. Torrential overnight rains for about 10 hours brought Chennai and neighbouring districts of Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur to a grinding halt, paralysing normal life completely. Schools and colleges, which are closed since 31 October due to rains, have been shut on Friday as well in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts.
