This week, Varanasi was witness to an interesting campaign focussing on the impact of air pollution caused by dirty fuel, specifically diesel, used in public transportation. Supported by labour and auto unions, market bodies, voluntary groups, students, and cultural groups, the Purpose Climate Lab in partnership with Climate Agenda and Centre for Environment and Energy Development organised the Swacch Urja Yatra to position electric rickshaws as a clean energy alternative. There was music, theatre, videos and posters to spread the message and a petition to promote an electric future with the slogan, “I want India driven by the sun.”
