NEW DELHI: After deciding to maintain its embassy in North Korea despite suggestions to the contrary, India has also distanced itself from the Trump administration's position on Cuba as it voted in favour of a UN resolution urging end to the US embargo on Cuba.

India on Thursday was among 191 out 193 UN member states to vote in favour of the resolution with US and Israel being the only two states to vote against the move in the global body. India, notwithstanding its strategic partnership with the US, came out strongly against the decades-old US sanctions, calling it a "contravention of world opinion", even as President Donald Trump wanted to roll back minor relaxations introduced by his predecessor, Barack Obama.
