HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old doctor slipped into coma after she underwent a surgery for sinusitis at Vivekananda hospital at Somajiguda. The incident came to light on Thursday,  34 days after the surgery and post-surgery treatment at another private hospital. Dr Niharika, who used to work in the same hospital,  got herself checked for her sinus problem at Vivekananda Hospital.

“The doctors at the hospital suggested  that she undergo a surgery and it was scheduled on September 16,”  Niharika’s mother, said adding that she was worried when the minor surgery took about four-and-half-hours.  “Later she was shifted to ICU and did not gain consciousness. The doctors  said that water entered into her lungs,” the mother said and alleged that she slipped into coma after the surgery.  The next morning,  Niharika was shifted to CARE Hospital and she remained unconscious for a week. She was discharged after 34 days.
