Speed up handover of flats or face action, builders told

GREATER NOIDA: Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) on Thursday issued notices to builders of 31 projects in the city to hand over possession of flats to 17,000 homebuyers or face strict action. Developers have been asked to obtain completion certificates for the on-going projects after expediting their completion within the next 15 days.

According to a GNIDA official, the move follows the closing deadline for delivery of about 50,000 homes to buyers by end of December 2017.

Earlier this year in August, a three-member cabinet committee of ministers had directed the Authorities of Noida and Greater Noida to ensure delivery of homes to investors "at any cost". On October 24, the GNIDA had called a meeting of 28 builders with an aim of getting them to chart out a road-map for handing over possession of flats to homebuyers within the designated time-frame and to clear any road blocks in the way.

In the last week, two builders have taken the mandatory completion certificates for 1,442 flats and will be handing over their possession soon. The two projects include Nirala Aspire with 988 flats and Habitat with 454 flats. The aim is to push more builders to complete their projects without further delay, said the official.

Since August, 35 builders have requisitioned for completion certificates. However, only seven builders have been given their completion certificates so far. Since September, 4,209 homebuyers have been handed over the possession of their flats. Once possession of all projects is complete, 16,473 homebuyers will get the ownership.
