Post Matric Scholarship ‘scams’ unearthed in Punjab: Minority Welfare Minister

The special audit is scheduled to be completed by December 31 this year. The state's finance department has been checking the accounts and records of various educational institutions in the state in the light of the order.

Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Punjab’s Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Minister, on Friday announced that the the ministry unearthed some “scams” during a special audit of the scholarship schemes for students of post matriculation.

“Hobnobbing with the scamsters and gross negligence of duty” has lead two officials to be placed under suspension, said Dharamsot who pointed out that several educational institutions have been linked to the “scams”.’

A special audit for all educational institutions in the state was ordered by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh earlier on June 16. The audit had its focus on the 2011-12 to 2016-17 records of the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme.

The special audit is scheduled to be completed by December 31 this year. The state’s finance department has been checking the accounts and records of various educational institutions in the state in the light of the order.
