HTC announces the mid-range U11 Life with Android One and HTC Sense variants along with U11 Plus

HTC has announced two new smartphones in addition to its flagship U11 smartphone. The devices launched by the smartphone maker are known as U11 Plus and the U11 Life.

The company launched the U11 Plus in the UK at a price of 699 pounds which amounts to approximately Rs 60,000 at the time of writing for the 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage variant. HTC launched the U11 Life in the US for a price of $349 which amounts to about Rs 22,500 at the time of writing.

The smartphone maker has launched two variants on HTC Life in the United States, the first one is powered by Android One while the second runs HTC Sense skin atop Android system.

With the launch of U11 Plus, HTC has joined the bezel-less smartphone trend. The phone comes with a 6-inch QuadHD+ screen with 18:9 aspect ratio. The reduced bezels mean that the fingerprint sensor that was originally located on the front of the U11 is now placed at the back of the device.

In terms of hardware, the U11 Plus follows in the footsteps of the original U11 by housing Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. It comes in two variants of 4 GB RAM along with 64 GB internal storage and 6 GB RAM along with 128 GB internal storage. Both the variants come with an option to expand the storage up to 256 GB using a microSD card. In terms of optics, the phone packs a 12 MP UltraPixel 3 OIS f/1.7 aperture camera on the back and an 8 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture on the front just like the HTC U11.

The phone has an IP68 rating making it water and dust resistance. HTC has also added a large 3930mAh battery to ensure good battery performance. The device comes with Type-C reversible connector, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and NFC in terms of connectivity options. One thing to note here is that the company has done away with 3.5-mm headp[hone jack with the U11 Plus. The device also packs the HTC Edge Sense feature that was originally introduced in the U11.The phone is available in three colours namely translucent Black, Ceramic Black and Amazing Silver.

The HTC U11 Life is a mid-range smartphone which is kind of a budget U11. It has two versions namely — Android One and HTC Sense wherein the latter has HTC's UI on top of Android 7.1 Nougat while the former has the stock Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. The device comes with a 5.2-inch full HD LCD display and has an IP67 rating making it water and dust resistant. Like the HTC U11 Plus, the U11 Life also does not come with a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

In terms of hardware, the phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset alongside 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage in the US and 4 GB RAM along with 64 GB of internal storage in other parts of the world. The storage can be expanded via a micro-SD card in both cases. The phone sports a 16 MP f/2.0 aperture camera module at the back of the device and another 16 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture on the front of the device.

The phone is powered by a 2,600 mAh battery along with USB type-C reversible connector, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC, and GPS in terms of connectivity options. HTC has added a fingerprint sensor below the screen on the U11 Life. The Android One version of the phone is offered in two colours of Sapphire Blue and Brilliant Black while the Sense version will only be offered in the Sapphire Blue colour.
