Court asks online travel co to return amount with interest

Jaipur: The Jaipur district consumer dispute redressal forum has ordered online travel company Make My Trip to return Rs 2,52,970 with interest to a petitioner.

Sunil Kumar Sharma, counsel for the petitioner Vijendra Kumar Mathur said, the petitioner had booked three tickets for a package tour, Unique Swiss Paris Delight Package Tour, on June 23, 2013 at Rs 59,990 per person. The petitioner paid the entire amount of Rs 2,5 2,970 to the company online.

The company had to arrange the visas as well as the stay but the Swiss government denied the visa on the ground that "the information submitted regarding the justification for the purpose of and conditions of the intended stay was not reliable." But the company has been refusing the return the amount to the petitioner on the ground that they had already booked ticket.

The forum asked the company to return the amount with 9% interest in addition to Rs 20,000 for mental stress and Rs 10,000 for legal expense.

HC seeks view on panel chief

Rajasthan High Court on Thursday asked the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) to inform the court of its opinion of making lawyer Vimal Chaudhary the convenor of the committee to implement the court directions to maintain cleanliness in the city.


The division bench of Justice KS Jhaveri and VK Vyas was hearing a contempt petition by Vimal Chaudhary himself.


The petitioner said, high court on May 21, 2012 gave many directions to the government and JMC to maintain clean Jaipur and in another order on August 23, 2015 asked the local bodies to impose urban development tax to find money for the local bodies.


The petitioner said the local bodies department had not yet complied with both the orders of the court. Then the court suggested why not lawyer Vimal Chaudhary be made the convenor of the committee and asked the JMC to file its replies within two weeks.
