MANGALURU: A constable attached to Beltangady police station was forced to pay a heavy price for sharing a message on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s temple controversy on Facebook.

The constable, Raja Shivappa Benne, was placed under suspension on Wednesday for sharing a message on Siddaramaiah’s decision to enter a temple after consuming non-vegetarian food and Prime Minister Narendra Modi observing a fast during his visit to the Dharmasthala temple.

The message was generated from B S Yeddyurappa fans page on Facebook. Dakshina Kannada SP Sudheer Kumar Reddy confirmed the suspension of constable Raja Shivappa Benne. The decision to place him under suspension was taken based on a report submitted by Assistant Superintendent of Police, he added. The suspension of Raja Shivappa Benne has taken the staff and public by surprise. Many who knew Raja Shivappa Benne described him as mild-mannered and soft-spoken. Raja’s account on Facebook was already deleted on Wednesday.
