Health minister takes stock of dengue menace in Kota

KOTA: Health minister Kali Charan Saraf on Thursday presided over a meeting of district officials, including the medical officers in medical college auditorium and reviewed the measures being taken to check the menace of seasonal diseases including dengue in Kota.

State agriculture minister and in charge of the district Prabhu Lal Saini was also present in the meeting.

Expressing concern over the deaths and rising menace of dengue and other seasonal diseases, Saraf stressed the need to ascertain the exact reason of deaths of the patients, suspected to have died of dengue and other seasonal diseases and to chalk out strategy for their prevention in future. He asked the medical officials to work to generate awareness on seasonal diseases on polio model.

Notably, about 50 persons are suspected to have died of dengue during ongoing outbreak of the diseases but medical and health department does not recognize them as dengue deaths as they were tested positive with dengue in card test not in Elisa test that the Indian Medical Council recognizes as valid.

According to the department, only four persons have died of dengue in Kota as per the Elisa test report.

The health minister ordered to cancel deputation and leaves of the medical officers and to make their night stay compulsory at headquarter. The minister also assured to sanction UIT Rs 40 lakh for purchase of five fresh fogging machines with the other 27 already working. He also directed to purchase three fresh Elisa test and one blood component machines.

The minister, in order to ascertain the exact cause of deaths of the patients suspected to have succumb to dengue or other seasonal disease, directed to send the samples of deceased to central lab in Pune so that the virus that led to death could exactly be detected.


A five-member administrative committee headed by commissioner, municipal corporation, Kota Dr Vikram Jindal probe into these deaths was also formed to look into the exact reason of deaths. The committee would submit its report local concerned MLA.


Saraf in the meeting also announced to fill up 10 vacant posts of lab technicians in Maharao Bheem Singh hospital (MBS) and informed appointments letters to 17 fresh doctors, have of whom have joined, have been issued asking them to join immediately.


Principal secretary Veenu Gupta, secretary Anand Kumar, local MLAs and other district officials and medical officials were present in the meeting. The state health minister later inaugurated urban primary health centre (PHC) in Borekheds area of Kota city.
