2 Phoenixville men waive preliminary hearing on gun charges

PHOENIXVILLE >> Two men accused of selling guns to undercover detectives have waived their right to a preliminary hearing.

Jason Brode, 35, of Phoenixville, and Jeffrey Simmons Sr., 63, of Phoenixville, waived their preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Theodore Michaels after they were charged with trying to sell guns to undercover officers.

The two men were arrested after the transaction with detectives on Oct. 6, according to police. Following the arrests, detectives searched the apartment the men shared in the unit block of Gay Street and two additional firearms were recovered, one of which was also reported stolen.

Both men were charged with criminal conspiracy, dealing in proceeds of unlawful activity, possession of a firearm prohibited, receiving stolen property and related charges.

Bail was set for both men at $25,000 cash and they were remanded to Chester County Prison awaiting trial.
