Justice A. Rajasekhar Reddy of Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday made it clear that the construction of two-bedroom flats scheme for the poor at Necklace Road in the heart of Hyderabad can go on, but this is subject to final orders in the case filed by some people seeking compensation.

The judge was passing these orders while vacating the interim orders in a writ petition filed by M. Jagannath Singh and others.

Land owners

The petitioners claimed that they are the owners of the land and without giving them compensation, the government is resorting to construction of buildings. Earlier, another single judge granted status quo orders. The government claimed that the land belongs to it as it was declared a slum in 1990.

The petitioners said that they were given pattas in 2005 and so are entitled for compensation as per the new Land Acquisition Act.

Justice Reddy said that the issue to be resolved was regarding compensation only.

The issue of compensation and how much the petitioners can get can be decided later and construction can go on.
