Udaipur: In a first, legal action has been initiated at a mass level in a special ongoing campaign under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana in Banswara district.
The district administration has proposed and initiated criminal cases against 550 beneficiaries who were allotted the first installment under the scheme, however, the house construction work has not yet been started.
Collector Bhagwati Prasad had initiated a campaign in the district to give momentum to the housing scheme for the unprivileged section of society. A team of 67 officers and over 4,000 subordinates had held a field survey to motivate people to begin the homes construction works that were sanctioned in 2016-17.
Some 21,000 construction work that had been held up, has restarted as a result of the campaign, however, during the field survey it was found that some 550 beneficiaries who had been alloted the first installment of Rs 30,000 in the first phase, hadn't yet begun the construction which was mandatory as per the scheme conditions. Block development officers have been instructed to hold field surveys and make a list of such beneficiaries who have not utilized the funds.
Some of the officers have already provided the list to the concerning police stations with an advice to initiate legal action under the related provisions, the sollector said. Case has been taken against two persons for construction against the set norms and sanctions.
