Collision at Agonda leaves 27 injured

Poinguinim/Canacona: A passenger minibus collided with a car at Dumanem in Agonda on Thursday evening, injuring 27 commuters.

According to police reports, the bus was on its way to Agonda, while the Maruti Alto was headed towards Devabag. The collision occurred at the turn near Dumanem, causing the bus to fall onto its side. Canacona fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the site to rescue the trapped passengers.


The driver of the car was also injured, while a female occupant escaped unhurt.


All the injured were referred to the Canacona health centre and some were discharged soon after. Nine victims Valen Fernandes, Divya Velip, Vishakha Pahi, Sangita Borkar, Harsha Gaonkar, Mahesh Pagi, Valerian Miranda, Devraj and Dinesh Kumarwere shifted to Hospicio, Margao, for further treatment.


A case has been registered under the Motor Vehicles Act.
