WEARING BLACK leather jackets, four men on bikes went on a robbery spree from north Delhi to central Delhi early Thursday morning. While separate FIRs have been registered in both districts, police are yet to find any clue and are analysing mobile dump data.

Police said the first incident took place around 6 am in north Delhi’s Maurice Nagar, when the complainant, Rajiv Rana, was out on a morning walk with his friend near DU Arts Faculty. “They parked their car outside the Arts Faculty and were walking, when the four bike-borne assailants drove by and robbed them of their gold chains and pendants. The incident was reported to police and an FIR was registered at Maurice Nagar police station,” an officer said.

Within 10 minutes, another incident was reported from outside Daulat Ram College, where Rajat Sethi, a resident of Mall Road, was robbed while he was out for a morning walk. “Four bike-borne assailants surrounded him. Using a cutter, they robbed him of his gold kada and rings. They even threatened to shoot him if he called for him. The victim told police that the accused were wearing helmets and leather jackets,” another officer said.

Around 6.20 am, a 21-year-old man was robbed of his motorcycle near Inderlok Metro station, police said. The motorcyclist, Tarun, who was returning home after delivering milk, was stopped by four men on two bikes around 6.30 am. “They stopped their bikes in front of me. I thought they were policemen. They were wearing helmets and leather jackets. One of them put a pistol to my head and another put a pistol to my stomach. They threatened to kill me if I did not part with my bike,” he claimed.

He alleged that when he approached police later in the day, a case of theft and not robbery was registered. He also alleged police were not cooperative. DCP (north) Jatin Narwal said, “The matter will be inquired and action will be taken in case any lapses are found.” Riding the stolen bike,
police said, the men then snatched a gold chain from a man who was on his way home after dropping his child in school and a purse from a retired bank employee. Another robbery bid, in Ranjit Nagar, was, however, foiled.

DCP (central) M S Randhawa said, “Three incidents took place in the central district. We have started our investigation. We have come to know they first robbed a bike from Inderlok.”
