MIM joins the chorus, demands inquiry into last-minute proposals

Aurangabad: After civic activists and Congress workers took a strong objection to clearing a slew of eleventh hour proposals at the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) has also joined the opposition against passing such proposals without due discussion and debate.

Ahead of the chief minister's likely visit to the city on Saturday, local MIM MLA Imtiaz Jaleel has submitted a memorandum before Devendra Fadnavis demanding a special inquiry into the matter.

Claiming that proposals in question were passed with mala fide intension, MIM has demanded suspension of all such proposals until the inquiry is complete. "This is to request you to order a high level inquiry into the last minute proposals that were sanctioned for selfish purposes and with mala fide intensions during the last one year of the General Body and the Standing Committee of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation," the memorandum submitted on Thursday reads.

MIM has alleged that the authorities bypassed debate without considering public interest.

"The intention was to make monetary gains by helping vested interests," the memorandum states, demanding inquiry into such proposals and its suspension until the probe is over. The letter has been endorsed by all MIM corporators.

The General Body and the Standing Committee have allegedly cleared over 50 proposals as last minute proposals since January, sparking angry reactions from civic activists and opposition parties. Many proposals were said to be controversial in nature and involving embezzlement of funds.

While the provision is considered to be an exception, its use as a normal course of action has incensed many. Former mayor Bapu Ghadamode has already defended the move to clear certain proposals maintaining that all party leaders were taken into confidence while arriving at the decisions.

"Why were the MIM corporators silent for the last year when such proposals were cleared. The party is making hue and cry now after the BJP mayor's term is over. On the contrary, we believe that MIM has been acting as BJP's B team," alleged a senior Shiv Sena leader.
