Uttar Pradesh is taking the saying 'catch 'em young' even further. Now, knowledge of sports is to be imparted to toddlers and small children up to class five.
According to Anupama Jaiswal, UP Minister of State for Basic Education, Child Development and Nutrition, books launched by an NGO on sports would be taken to every school in the state. The minister, who was speaking at the launch of books in English and Hindi for the very young here said the efforts would "lay the foundation for future India."
The books have been launched by Sports: A Way of Life, which runs sports literacy programmes in the country. Kanishka Pandey, president of the NGO, said that he had sent an appeal to almost 40,000 parents of children studying in government schools to sensitise them about the need for appreciation of sports from a young age.
He said as a pilot project, all schools in Ghaziabad would be given access to these books for students till class five, according to the release issued by the NGO.
