On problems of subabul farmers, formation of cold chain infrastructure development corporation

The State Cabinet on Wednesday decided to constitute two GoMs to formulate policy matters. One Group of Ministers (GoM) comprises the Agriculture Minister, the Marketing Minister and the Water Resources Development Minister, who hails from the Krishna district, will look into problems associated with subabul farmers.

When some Ministers pointed out that the Sirpur Kagaznagar paper mill hadn’t cleared the bills, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said the government would pay 2/3rd amount of the dues to the farmers to bail out them from distress. The amount would be recovered from the mill, he said.

Announcing the details, Agriculture Minister Somireddi Chandramohan Reddy said the GoM would formulate the policy on subabul prices. At present, the subabul is cultivated in Krishna, Prakasam and Guntur districts. However, there is no uniform price.

Another GoM comprising the Ministers of Agriculture and allied sectors, Marketing, Civil Supplies and Cooperation would work out the modalities for formation of the Cold Chain Infrastructure Development Corporation, he said.

In view of the problems faced by the farmers in selling their produce in time with profits for various reasons including non-availability of even minimum support price and storage facilities, the government had decided to form the Corporation.

Information and Public Relations Minister Kaluva Srinivasulu said the Cabinet had decided to float Meat Development Corporation to give a fillip to meat production and exports.

The Cabinet cleared a proposal to develop a world class Science City at Tirupati by 2025 with a cost of ₹639 crore in 29 acres. In view of the technical and other problems faced by the universities in the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching employees, the Cabinet had decided to entrust the job to the APPSC. A Bill relating to it would be tabled in the Assembly, he said.

The Cabinet cleared another proposal to give a counter guarantee to the Swachh Andhra Corporation to avail itself of loan of ₹500 crore. The loan would be utilised for the construction of 12.5 lakh toilets under the Swacch Andhra programme and another 2.5 lakh toilets under the MNREGS, he said.

An Economic Township would come in 153.11 acres at Jakkampudi and 81.45 acres in Vemavaram villages.
