A protest against a proposed Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) gas Pipeline Project turned violent as people clashed with police in Kozhikode in Kerala.

Local residents and action committee members clashed with police at Mukkam in Kozhikode district on Wednesday, leading to injuries to many protesters and arrests, reported ANI.
Local people have been opposing the pipeline being laid by the GAIL, stating that many will be displaced from their lands and homes. They also alleged that the compensation package for the landowners was not attractive.
Trouble broke out at Eranjimavu in Mukkam between the police and protesters who were against laying of the GAIL pipeline. When the protestors destroyed the vehicle of GAIL authorities, the police retorted with lathi charge. The police also sprung into action and dismantled the shed put up by the protestors.
