NEW DELHI: BJP’s announcement that Prem Kumar Dhumal will be its CM candidate for the upcoming Himachal elections has boosted party workers’ morale, as per senior BJP leader Anurag Thakur.

Thakur, Dhumal’s son, said BJP was confident of sweeping to victory in the state with at least three-fourths majority. “Party cadre was eagerly waiting for it. There is a sea change in their morale after the announcement,” he said.

“Party workers are extremely excited and are working overtime to ensure party’s grand win.”

Thakur said, “A few seats which could have swung either way are now assured of giving a clear win to BJP candidates. All thanks to the announcement of the CM candidate by the party president.” On Himachal Pradesh CM Virbhadra Singh, Thakur said: “The chief minister is out on bail.”

Thakur, who has also held the post of BCCI chief, said, “Mafia is ruling the state, courtesy the misgovernance of Congress. The only way to bail out the state is to bring in an experienced person like Dhumal, who has a clean image.”

Asked about “dynasty politics”, Thakur said: “The difference between us and them is that the worth of Virbhadra’sunemployed sonrose from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 84.5 crore in a span of a few years”. “Whereas we (BJP) want to take Himachal to the next level by working at the grass roots level,” Thakur said. Hesaidthestate is reeling under a debt of `50,000 crore, and the people of Himachal will “bootoutthecorruptCongress” as BJP has brought in people “who believe in development”.

Thakur said “nine” has appeared to be party’s lucky number. “The voting will be on the 9th. The results will be out on December 18, again 9 (sum total of 1 and 8). BJP announced its list of candidates on 18th.” “Amit Shahji announced the CM candidate at 4:05 pm. So, 9 (sum total of all dates and time) appears to be our lucky number. Hence, we expect to secure 54 or 63 seats.” Thakur said.
