NEW DELHI: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday took a dig at the CBI clean chit to Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the Vyapam scam, associating it with the government's Swachh Bharat Mission.
"नैतिकता गई कूड़ेदान जय स्वच्छ भारत अभियान!," Rahul tweeted, with a link to a report about the investigating agency clearing Chouhan of charges in the case, while naming 490 others in its charge-sheet.
The CBI's decision came as a major relief to the Madhya Pradesh CM, who became embroiled in the recruitment racket after senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh levelled allegations against him.
Now, Singh could face prosecution for fabricating documents.
Singh and the scam's whistle-blower Prashant Pandey had approached the Supreme Court with the contention that the hard disk recovered from accused Nitin Mohindra's computer was "tampered with," and the word "CM" (a reference to Chouhan) had been deleted in 48 places.
They had both also claimed to possess a pen drive with the phone numbers of Chouhan and his wife.
According to the CBI, detailed forensic analysis of the hard disk had proved that there was no file on "CM". In fact, it was found that false documents and digital records were used against Chouhan. The agency concluded that the data on the pen drive(s) was either improvised or tampered with.
