Rajkot: Gagji Chohal (60), a fruit vendor and his son Haka (35) were hacked to death in broad daylight over business rivalry by six persons near Gangotri Park Society on Sadhu Vaswani Road on Wednesday. Both are residents of Kailashpark on Sadhu Vasvani Road.
Police has booked six persons including Sultan, his brother Mustaq and four others, all of whom are residents of Bajrang Wadi following an FIR lodged by Gagji's elder son Vipul Chohal with the University police station.
Tension gripped the Sadhu Vasvani Road area as well as nearby areas as the incident had taken a communal tone with scores of people from the Bharwad community, to which the deceased belong, thronging the private hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.
According to police, Sultan had entered into an altercation with Gagji's younger son Kanu Chohal over setting up a fruit stall near their handcart. They had a scuffle and also hurled abuses at each other.
On Wednesday, Sultan, Mustaq and others came armed with knives and swords and began an argument with Kanu. When Gagji and his son Haka, intervened they were attacked with swords and knifes by the accused. Police said that the father-son duo was stabbed multiple times. They were rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Police inspector G B Bhambhaniya of University police station said, "Primarily, it seems to be a case of business rivalry over selling fruits. Investigation is on in the case." He further said that all the accused in the case are absconding.
"They will be nabbed soon. Entire incident has been captured on CCTV camera of nearby shops," added Bhambhaniya. Police has dispatched teams of the local crime branch and special operations group to nab the accused.
Police said that Gaghi is survived by his wife and two sons, while Haka is survived by his wife and two children.
