Film actor and writer Tanikella Bharani on Wednesday said, he felt institution of an award in memory of the renowned poet late Devulapalli Krishnasastry would be a great encouragement for budding poets from the two Telugu States.
Addressing a meeting organised at Chandrampalem village of Samalkot mandal to mark the 121st birth anniversary of the poet, Mr. Bharani said Krishnasastry had inspired a good number of writers, poets and lyricists.
“Though Chandrampalem is a remote village, all the writers and poets are paying a visit to this place because of the legendary poet,” he said, adding that institution of an award would also help the younger generation know much more about Krishnasastry and his works.
Song in Sanskrit
Writer and literary critic Vadrevu Veeralakshmi Devi, who presided over the meeting, said the song ‘Jaya jaya priya bharata’ by Krishnasastry had all the qualities to be chosen as the national anthem.
“The song was penned in Sanskrit language, without using a Telugu word,” she said.
Krishnasastry’s works were equivalent to those of Rabindranath Tagore and that the only difference was that the former’s works were not getting translated into English, she said.
Poets Sikhamani, Datla Devadanam Raju and K. Ramachandra Reddy were present.
