Action after studying situation

Belagavi Mayor Sanjot Bandekar participated in the Black Day observed by her party - Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti - in the city on Kannada Rajyotsava on Wednesday, inviting criticism from several pro-Kannada groups.

Ashok Chandaragi, comvenor of Federation of Kannada Organisations, termed it as an “anti-Karnataka act” and urged the government to initiate action against her.

District in-charge minister Ramesh Jarkiholi, speaking to reporters after attending the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations at CPEd college grounds here, said the government would study the situation before deciding on action against her or the city corporation. “Everybody knows that MES does it for political gains, especially now since this is an election year. We will study the pros and cons and then decide on action to be initiated,” he said.

Every year, the MES organises Black Day on Rajyotsava protesting against the non-inclusion of Belagavi in Maharashtra. The state government superceded the city corporation a few years ago after the then Mayor participated in Black Day observations.
