Vasundhara Raje urges Centre to cut GST on marble, granite

JAIPUR: Chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Wednesday demanded the Centre to reduce the GST on marble and granite.

Raje, who met Union finance minister Arun Jaitley in Delhi, said Rajasthan's marble is known all over the world and thousands of people are employed in this sector. To provide relief to this industry and consumers the present rates of GST needs to be reduced, she said.

It was a double whammy for the marble industry when the state government recently increased the royalty on marble by 29 % over an 18% GST when the sector was reeling under a slump due to the recession in the construction sector.

The chief minister also requested Jaitley to increase the credit limit for Uday scheme loan repayment. The chief minister appreciated the steps taken by the Centre to the benefit of the opium farmers in the state.

Raje also met Union road and transport minister Nitin Gadkai and demanded Rs 2823 crore for various ongoing road projects in the state. Chief Minister during her meeting with Shri Gadkari also informed that various ambitious projects have been taken up to strengthen road networks in Rajasthan and additional proposals of worth Rs. 7000 crores for expansion of road networks have been sent to the center.


Raje requested Shri Gadkari to sanction amount for the National Highway from Swarupganj-Kherwara-Dungarpur-Banswara upto State Border. She also requested to approve four laning of Soyla to Balesar via Osian and Tinwari road and State Highway-12 from Jaipur(Sanganer)-Phagi-Malpura-Kekri-Shahpura-Mandal(Bhilwara). Besides this she asked for declaring Suratgarh-Baropal-18SPD- Jakharanwali-Bherusari- Rawatsar- Nohar-Bhadra-Hisar route as National Highway and sanction amount for these projects.


The chief minister demanded permission for construction of railway over bridges on national highways under Sethu Bharatam scheme.


Raje also met Union Minister of state for Tourism Alphons Kannanthanam. She discussed many tourism related initiatives of Rajasthan with the union Minister who has been nominated as the party candidate for the Rajya Sabha by lection from the state.
