The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and UrbanClap, a private online service aggregator, on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding, to provide employment opportunities for the urban poor who have been skilled under the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM).

The MoU signed in presence of Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs (Independent Charge), will be effective for five years.

UrbanClap has assured a minimum monthly earning of ₹15,000 for plumbers, electricians and carpenters and ₹25,000 for appliance repair technicians, and beauty and spa therapists.

The three-year old start-up will bring together demand for domestic services and the urban poor skilled under DAY-NULM in 16 cities, including Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, an official release said.

“The MoU will lead to enhancing the employment of those being skilled in high-demand services under DAY-NULM. At present, over 35 per cent of those skilled under DAY-NULM have found employment,” Puri said. He also urged UrbanClap to cover all the 106 cities which have a population of five lakh and above and State capitals.
