NEW DELHI: American technology giant, IBM has launched a new cloud private software platform to enable companies to create on-premises cloud
capabilities similar to public clouds. The new platform is expected to accelerate various app developments especially in emerging areas such as Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence.

This comes on back of estimates by IBM that companies will spend more than $50 billion globally starting in 2017 to create and evolve private clouds with growth rates of 15 to 20% a year through 2020.

"With IBM Cloud Private, IBM is helping customers start on a cloud strategy by taking advantage of the control and security of their on-premises system with the freedom to connect or move resources to public clouds in the future," said Vikas Arora, country manager, cloud business, IBM India
and South Asia. He added that IBM Cloud Private brings rapid application development and modernization to existing IT infrastructure and positions it to be combined with the services and experience of a public cloud platform.

The company has been testing the product as a Beta since June this year and unveil to all its customers starting Wednesday.

India, IBM claims that over 1000 customers, partners and startups are using Watson IoT platform on the IBM Cloud. Arora also said that one of the dominant trends in this space is that adoption of Software as a Service (SaaS) is leading to adoption of Blockchain, Hybrid Cloud, end-point security, and the IBM Watson platform. The company has on boarded over 88 new SaaS partners in the first half of the year.

Already around 20% of IBM's revenues are contributed by the cloud.
