Khichdi As National Food? Twitter Simmers With Reactions

How do you feel about the humble khichdi being elevated to India's national food? The Ministry of Food Processing Industries, headed by Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, will be pitching for khichdi to be declared as India's national food at the upcoming 'World Food India' event at the India Gate Lawns, New Delhi. An official notification from the ministry says khichdi "symbolizes India's great culture of unity in diversity at its best". The dish will be promoted as the Brand India Food at the event on Saturday.

As soon as Twitter got a whiff of the comfort food's possible elevation as 'national food', the micro-blogging site started buzzing with reactions, for and against, the humble rice and lentil preparation being elevated to national status. Khichdi has also been trending since.
