Capital Hospital to get facelift soon

BHUBANESWAR: The Capital Hospital is all set to get a facelift. The State Government has planned to upgrade it as one of the well-equipped modern hospitals in the State.Chairing a high-level meeting on Tuesday, Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena said funds would not be a constraint for the upgradation of the hospital as top medical institution.
He has directed Special Secretary of Health Department Dr BK Mishra, Director of Capital Hospital Dr Chittaranjan Das and Secretary of Works Department Nalinikanta Pradhan to prepare a long-term plan and submit a proposal soon.
The Minister held a detailed discussion on the infrastructural deficiency, facilities and equipment available in the hospital and the requirements to meet exigencies.“Steps would be initiated for expansion of the hospital keeping the future need in mind. Apart from beautification of the hospital and parking facility, a silent diesel generator would be provided for un-interrupted power supply,” Jena said.
Started as a flagship hospital in 1954 with only 60 beds on 20 acres of land, Capital Hospital now boasts around 650 beds at the centre of temple city. More than 10 lakh people from Bhubaneswar, adjacent districts of Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri depend on the biggest peripheral hospital in the State which provides round the clock services.
Stating that all possible measures would be taken to improve healthcare services, the Minister asked the officials to submit an action taken report by November 15. Among others, Khurda Collector Nirmal Kumar Mishra, Managing Director of Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited RP Singh, Director of Health Services Dr BK Brahma and Additional Secretary Ajit Mishra were present.
