Panaji: Chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said the state has decided on new guidelines that will ensure at least one truck belonging to a family of truck owners is made operational for iron ore transportation.

Those disrupting the law with arguments over transportation routes will see their transportation registration cancelled for a duration depending on the nature of the offence, he said.

The chief minister also said it has been decided that transportation of iron ore will not occur between 7.30am and 8.30am and 1pm and 2pm, which are school opening and closing hours.

The decisions were taken after a meeting with stakeholders, including MLAs representing the mining belt.

"In the absence of an MoU or arrangement between a lease owner and transporters, the transporation rate will be Rs 12.50 for a route of less than 10km. From 10km to 20km, it will be Rs 12 and above 20km it will be Rs 11.50. Wherever there's an arrangement, this won't be applicable," Parrikar said.

The meeting was attended by MLAs Rajesh Patnekar, Pravin Zantye, Nilesh Cabral, Deepak Pauskar and Prasad Gaonkar, and truck owners, officials of directorate of mines and geology, GMOEA representatives and mining firms.

"Trucks will operate in the area the families reside. We have told them to regulate it on their own. But if there are some issues, I will hear them out. A review meeting will be held in December to sort out any issues that crop up during the current month. I can't resolve all issues at once. Due to the capping at 20 million tonnes, the available trucks are in excess," Parrikar said.

He said 5,000 trucks are presently involved in iron ore transportation.
