Jaipur: Many houses in Kasba Nonera gram panchayat of Baran district lie unoccupied, locked. The residents have all migrated in search of livelihood. From the Sahariya Colony village here, at least 60 people have travelled elsewhere in search of work.
At Ranipura, Mandi Sahajna, Gannakhedi and other villages too, many houses are locked. No work has been offered under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in these villages in several months. Several of the villagers here who had worked on projects under NREGA have also complained of not being paid wages for work done many months ago.
Mahipal Singh Meena, the NREGA official for this region, said there are 1,411 workers engaged in Kishanganj block in NREGA works. He said works would be undertaken under NREGA in Kasba Nonera too after he conducts an assessment of the situation and ascertains that local people are in need of work.
