Exclusive: Sunita Rajwar on Nawazuddin Siddiqui withdrawing memoir: Damage has been done

Sunita Rajwar had earlier shared a long statement on Facebook, writing that her relationship and subsequent break-up with Nawazuddin Siddiqui wasn’t how he portrayed in his book.

Within less than a week of its release, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s memoir An Ordinary Life managed to ruffle a few feathers. Two of his former partners – actors Niharika Singh and Sunita Rajwar – publicly slammed the actor for writing, what they call “lies” about them and their respective relationships with the actor. As a result, Siddiqui withdrew the memoir two days ago and apologised for hurting people’s sentiments.

As indianexpress.com reached out to Sunita Rajwar for her comment on Siddiqui’s latest move, she replied, “Thanks for your support. It’s way too early to comment… As of now, I feel the damage has been done and now it is irreversible…”

Rajwar was Siddiqui’s first girlfriend. A few days ago, she shared a long statement on Facebook, writing that her relationship and subsequent break-up with Siddiqui wasn’t how he portrayed in his book. She also pointed out various apparent loopholes in his narration.

In the memoir, Nawazuddin Siddiqui had written how after his break-up from Sunita Rajwar, he had decided that he would never be as emotional again in any relationship. He wrote that he was so affected by the end of their “deep, passionate love” that he “plunged into deep, deep depression” and was even thinking of committing suicide.

“I took a bucket of fresh white paint and began to replace her artwork on my walls with the blank canvas that they were before,” writes Nawazuddin Siddiqui and even justifies that maybe Rajwar wanted to “date someone successful, not a struggling, desperate actor who was out of work.” He also claims in the book that “today, Sunita tells everybody that she was once together with me in a very serious relationship.”

Rebutting his claims, Sunita Rajwar wrote that Nawazuddin Siddiqui had always been a sympathy seeker, and that’s why he claimed that she called their relationship off due to his financial status. In the post, she asked him how did he forget that she was more of a struggler at the time than him. While Nawazuddin had his own house to put up in, she had to move into a friend’s apartment, Rajwar wrote.

Also, while the Babumoshai Bandookbaaz actor claimed that even though he and Rajwar were both National School of Drama graduates, they never met on campus, she said that it is true that they didn’t have any kind of relation in NSD but to say that they never met there was a little odd.

An excerpt from the book reads, “You remember those old-fashioned hearts with the names of lovers in it, sometimes with an arrow across it, sometimes without? Her doodles (on his wall) were something like that.” Sunita Rajwar rejected this idea as well, saying that she never drew anything on his wall, then how could he paint the artwork all white again.
