Rajnath Singh blames Virbhadra for ‘bankrupt’ Himachal Pradesh

SHIMLA: Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday attacked the Congress government for corruption in Himachal Pradesh. He said chief minister Virbhadra Singh did not resign in spite of facing serious allegations of corruption, adding that leaders from any other party would have resigned immediately on moral grounds if similar allegations were made against them in a preliminary inquiry.

He also said each BJP MLA will have to disclose his property and assets every year to bring transparency to the system.

Addressing two public meetings in Balh and Nachan assembly constituencies of Mandi district, Rajnath said politicians facing corruption allegations should resign and not assume any office till they are not cleared of all the charges.

During his address at Balh, Rajnath attacked the Congress government of Himachal Pradesh and claimed it was knee-deep in corruption. He alleged the Congress party and its chief minister had brought the state to the verge of financial bankruptcy. At Kot in Nachan assembly constituency, Rajnath said despite facing serious corruption allegations Virbhadra Singh has continued in the office.

Praising demonetization, Rajnath said it had left those involved in corruption speechless. He said help of shell companies was taken earlier to convert black money, but now 3 lakh such companies had been closed down by the Modi government.

Referring to gangrape and murder of a minor girl in Kotkhai area of Shimla district in July, Rajnath said effective steps would be taken on this issue. On coming to power, the BJP would start round-the-clock Gudiya helpline. To stop illegal mining and illicit forest felling, a joint task force would be formed, he added.

The Union home minister said people whose land had been acquired for road building will be given fourtime the compensation rates in Himachal Pradesh.

He also questioned the Congress government on developmental issues and challenged Virbhadra Singh to tell people of state why despite huge flow of funds from the Centre, there was no development in Himachal Pradesh under the Congress rule.
