Terming the entry of Revanth Reddy as a crusade against the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy reminded that those who joined the BJP or the TRS at this juncture were going for political gains while Revanth Reddy joining opposition Congress party reflected his intentions to fight against the TRS misrule.
Speaking to reporters after Mr. Revanth Reddy formally joined the party on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy hoped that the entry of such leaders would strengthen the cause of forming real Telangana. He said many leaders from other parties were waiting to join the Congress to fight against communalism and corruption. He said Mr. Revanth Reddy joined the party without any conditions and no assurances were given to him or the other leaders coming along with him.
Besides Revanth, 14 other TDP leaders, including former ministers, former MLAs and former MLCs apart from two ex-MLAs of TRS and four prominent leaders of Osmania University JAC joined the party, he said.
‘Dreams shattered’
Mr. Reddy said basic human rights and democratic rights have been trampled upon by the TRS government. Nearly four crore people dreamt of getting a better quality of life, but only one family benefited and is looting the new State, Mr. Reddy said adding that the Congress party was all set to come to power in 2019 elections.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Revanth Reddy said his decision to join Congress was not a regular switch-over from one party to the other. Unlike other States, Telangana was not formed under normal circumstances and it involved six decades of struggle and sacrifices by over 1500 people, especially students and youth. But the real objective of Telangana formation was not achieved due to KCR and he shattered the dreams of all sections like students, youth and farmers. The sacrifice made by Sonia Gandhi in the bold decision of granting statehood will not be wasted, Mr. Revanth Reddy said.
“I joined the Congress to fulfil the real aspirations of Telangana’s martyrs. Rahul Gandhi is bound to become the next Prime Minister and together we will turn the real dream of Telangana into a reality,” he said. He alleged that TRS Government did not even prepare the complete list of over 1500 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Telangana. AICC secretary and incharge for Telangana K.C. Khuntia described Revanth Reddy a dynamic and selfless leader, he said his decision to join Congress in Telangana despite TDP being in power in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh State was unique.
