Ribbon song 'Har Mod Par Umeed' is a slice from Kalki Koechlin, Sumeet Vyas' life in the film
The upcoming film Ribbon, starring Kalki Koechlin and Sumeet Vyas, is a slice of life flick that revolves around an urban couple facing issues like unplanned pregnancy, financial constraints etc. The film's latest song 'Har Mod Pe Umeed' gets pretty close to reflecting the very essence of the film through a soft melody.
The song, written by Puneet Sharma and composed by Sagar Desai, has been voiced by Jasleen Kaur Royal who has songs like 'Nachde Ne Saare' from Baar Baar Dekho and 'Preet' from Khoobsurat.
'Har Mod Par Umeed', in a subtle and metaphorical way, chronicles how the couple — Koechlin and Vyas — tackle their shortcomings with a pinch of hope. What accentuates the overall feel of the song is Jasleen's vocal texture which doesn't come out as a conventional playback singer's voice.

The song begins with Koechlin knowing that she is pregnant, and follows the journey of the urban couple along with their growing child.
What also comes out remarkably, in the expressions and mood of the actors, is the fact that having a child is after all a huge responsibility. Gone are the days when the whole family would celebrate upon the arrival of an infant with over-the-top merrymaking (Hum Aapke Hai Koun, anyone?).
The major reason behind this shift is the change in familial structure as well; joint families have been replaced by nuclear families. Correspondingly, the financial structure has also changed. Ribbon beautifully portrays these shifts.
'Har Mod Par Umeed' also celebrates the human spirit in a very subtle way. In spite of their shortcomings, both the characters are coming to terms with this drastic change in their lifestyle. With a new member coming into their lives, they make certain adjustments, but don't lose hope. After all, life goes on, doesn't it?
Directed and co-written by Rakhee Sandilya, Ribbon is a Red Cart Films production. It is slated to release across India on 3 November.
