Commenting on a recent article, the Los Angeles Area weight loss clinic says that the evidence supporting the health benefits of bariatric procedures has become overwhelming.
LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) November 01, 2017
An October 6 article on Reuters describes a recent study of nearly 89,000 severely obese patients led by Dr. Daniel Schauer of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The study found that individuals who had obtained a bariatric procedure had a risk of cancer that was lower by 33 percent, as well as a 40 percent lower chance of developing tumors that are often connected with obesity. Los Angeles based weight loss center Dr. Feiz & Associates notes that these kinds of results have long been the norm when scientific studies are performed on weight loss surgery patients. It adds that it’s not really surprising considering that obesity is closely associated with countless serious medical conditions; it stands to reason that resolving obesity would tend to reverse these issues.
The clinic adds that most people now know that obesity is often at the root of countless life threatening medical conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, strokes, and cancer. However, fewer people understand just why it is that weight loss surgery is so urgently needed by patients and just why it is that more doctors are arguing that a higher percentage of the obese population should be obtaining these procedures.
Dr. Feiz & Associates notes that it is important for people to understand that bariatric procedures are never “the easy way out.” In fact, the clinic adds, given the dismal statistics on weight loss attempts without surgery, for most severely obese patients they are actually the only way out. Humans evolved in a world where food was scarce, and so it was important for our brains and bodies to keep us motivated to constantly search for food, says the weight loss center. When an individual starts to lose weight, the body starts to produce more appetite inducing hormones which create the nagging sensations of hunger that even most casual dieters know only too well, but which are actually all that much stronger for people who are trying to defeat severe obesity. Most individuals with serious weight problems, the clinic notes, are simply unable to withstand the constant barrage of hungry feelings.
Dr. Feiz & Associates notes that such procedures as a sleeve gastrectomy not only reduce the size of the stomach and make overeating uncomfortable, they have been found to dramatically reduce the amount of hunger hormones produced by the body – and along with it, the constant cravings that sabotage so many attempts at weight loss. The road to a longer, healthier, and happier life will never be particularly easy, but weight loss surgery makes it achievable, says the clinic.
