Though the recent order of Madras High Court has put an end to the practice of erecting banners and flex boards of living person, their use has not come down especially when it comes to events of political parties.
In a novel way, the AIADMK chose to have the images of living leaders on a gigantic balloon floated above Dr. Nanjappa Road. On Tuesday, the balloon had images of Mr. Palaniswamy, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and Minister of Municipal Administration and Rural Development S.P. Velumani along with MLAs. Social media platforms went viral with comments saying, if you deny splace on land - sky will become our limit.
Avinashi Road and other roads leading to Gandhipuram flyover are cluttered with banners, flex boards and party flags on Tuesday in view of the its inauguration by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday.
The banners, flex boards and other festoons had the images of late Chief Ministers C.N. Annadurai, M.G. Ramachandran, and Jayalalithaa. Party flags were erected on median while huge hoardings were erected on road sides. Names of Chief Minister, and others were written on them.
Stretches of Avanashi Road, VOC Park area, and Dr. Nanjappa Road indicated that there was very little respite from the menace of flex and cut-out culture. At many places, these festoons and decorations amply encroached upon road space used by motorists for parking vehicles.
