Tirupur: Police have arrested a 65-year-old man, who killed his 37-year-old son following a dispute at Udumalpet on Monday.

The arrested man was identified as G Chellamuthu, an agricultural labourer and a resident of Ramagoundan Puthur. "He was staying with his wife and son at the accommodation provided by his employer. His son C Sasikumar was an astrologer. He was depressed after the failure of his marriage and used to spent his earnings on liquor," a police officer said.

Sasikumar would often pester his mother for money to buy liquor. "Chellamuthu was annoyed over his son's addiction. On Monday evening, Sasikumar, in an inebriated state, quarrelled with his mother, who was ill, as she refused to give him money to buy liquor. An angry Chellamuthu asked him to get out of the house. He also hit his son using a hoe on his rear head. Sasikumar left the place after the scuffle. Chellamuthu took his wife to a hospital. When he returned to the house, he found Sasikumar dead near the house," the officer told TOI.

Chellamuthu informed his son Mahalingam about the incident. Police recovered Sasikumar's body and arrested Chellamuthu. Amaravathi police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
