CHENNAI/HYDERABAD: A trainee IPS officer has been booked in Chennai for alleged malpractice during the civil services (mains) exam recently.

Two people, including a woman, have been held in Hyderabad in connection with the case.

The officer, identified as Safeer Karim, was booked under various IPC sections including cheating, police said, without mentioning the day of his arrest.

Karim allegedly indulged in malpractices while appearing in the civil services exams and reportedly managed to enter the exam hall with electronic gadgets concealed under his dress.

The exams are being held since Saturday.

However, a team of sleuths checked him later on suspicion and found him in possession of the gadgets.

Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, Tamil Nadu Police arrested the woman and another man in connection with the alleged malpractice by Karim.

"Based on the confession of the accused (Karim), we arrested two persons today from Hyderabad and they were produced before a local court and are being taken on transit remand," a police official from Chennai told reporters in Hyderabad.

The issue was regarding cheating and malpractice in the examination, he added.

A senior official of Hyderabad Police said based on the information provided by the Tamil Nadu Police and the Intelligence Bureau, the Hyderabad Commissioner's Task Force sleuths raided a centre which was imparting civil services coaching in Ashok Nagar there last evening.

There they detained the woman and Rambabu belonging to the coaching centre, he said.

"They were allegedly found supporting (the malpractice) using electronic gadgets such as laptops and bluetooth," a police official told PTI.

The duo were subsequently placed under arrest by the Chennai Police and produced in a city court, the official added.
